If you read my first part to this blog, which I published at the beginning of December (if not there’s still time to read it), you have already gone through the first three and very important steps towards reinventing yourself. And so as promised, I am now going to give you some helpful tips to finalise this process and create a New You for the New Year.
I cannot begin to tell you how very happy I am. If you are reading this, it is because you have decided that you are doing this for yourself, you know you are worth it, superb! You know better than anybody else what you want, and you are ready to get it. Fabulous news!
I can only guess it was a little bit difficult to let go of all those things that were holding you back, i.e. old feelings, habits, clothes, routines and all those things that may have been dragging you down. Well done for embracing change.
Did you create a vision board? Or perhaps you decided to just list either on paper or in your mind what you would like to see in the mirror, and the message you want to project with your image? Whichever you decided, please read on, as I’m about to share my last steps to the process with you.
Your Personal Style
Ah! Here is an interesting one, no matter what your dress code needs to be, you should be clear as to what your personal style is, what makes you be you. Some people are very sure of who they are, but most people will inevitably not know at all. If you belong to the latter group, I would encourage you to start forming an idea by jotting down what kind of clothes, colours, and shapes you like. You could even perhaps look at those around you and celebrities you like the style of. It doesn’t have to be just the one person, there may be a couple or even several from which you can start taking ideas from in order to create your own personal style.
Your Wardrobe, Hair, Make-up, and Nails
In my previous blog I mentioned stripping away anything and everything that is holding you back. This also very much applies to clothes and accessories. It is very easy to get comfortable and return to the same garments and accessories over and over again, even if we know that they are not really helping us express who we are. I myself have done that, and as difficult as it may seem, getting rid of them is incredibly liberating! So please, love yourself and only keep those items that truly and genuinely make you happy. This also applies to when you go out shopping, you should only buy items that are going to make you feel fabulous, anything other than fabulous is not worth even considering. A word of advice, quality over quantity should be your motto. It will not only help you look and feel great, but also save all those wrong purchases from going into landfill and damaging the environment.
Now that you have your wardrobe sorted out, it is time to pull it all together with hair and make-up. It is very much worth it to invest some time in finding the right hairdresser. I would suggest trying a few in your area to see who makes you feel more comfortable and understands your personality, own style, colour and cut best. This very same advice also applies to make up. Visit any of the very good make up counters in department stores for a chance to try on the products before you part with your hard-earned cash and also to get free advice.
You now understand your personality, you have clothes, hair and make-up that express your personality, so you can look the part, right? Well, almost! One more final thing is to look at your posture and body language. They both need to convey the same overall message. So, let’s do this, shoulders back and down, walk exuding confidence, and most importantly, smile!
