As 2019 comes to an end and the New Year approaches, we are all beginning to take stock of what this year has been like and starting to think of what our New Year’s resolutions are going to be. We are assessing all aspects of our life, and are perhaps looking forward to emerging into 2020 as a better version of ourselves.
The most popular resolutions of all times are: to exercise more, lose weight, get organized, save money… but what if this year you want to take it a step further? What if this is the year in which you truly want to reinvent yourself?
So, you want to look better/ different … What is holding you back?
You have tons of positive intentions, but perhaps you are not sure how to start?
Let me give you some food for thought in this first part of the blog. My aim in Part 1 is to help you with the thinking process. In Part 2 ,which I will publish in a week’s time, I will give you some steps to ease your way through the process and take you triumphally to your desired image.
Change is constant and it applies to all areas of our lives as well as our bodies and the way we present ourselves. Contrary to popular belief, we are treated according to how we represent ourselves, and there’s nothing superficial about taking care of your appearance. We, as humans, have a desire to be the best version of ourselves. That’s why we feel the need to keep reinventing ourselves as we go through the different stages of our lives. We need to feel and look like who we really are, here and now.
Reinventing yourself is not just about creating a better version of yourself, but it is also a response to our natural desire to deserve better things in life. I understand this is not an easy process and many give up before reaching their vision, but if you stick with it the end result is truly rewarding. Whether you have already undergone reinvention on the inside this year and need to update the outside to match, or simply feel that it is time to reinvent yourself, I am here to help you through the process. We will start with three simple steps.
The first and perhaps most important step of all is to decide who you are doing this for? You really need to take some time and be really sure that change is what you really want. It needs to be for yourself. This way it will feel natural, it will improve your confidence and help you create a positive body image, and in turn it will change your life for the better.
Once, you are sure that this is what you want, it is time to strip away anything and everything that has been holding you back.
A good example would be someone who has lost weight and yet he/she is still using the same big and dated clothes, still wearing the same hair style, same make up and still holding on to the same habits.
In order to reinvent ourselves we must start from letting go of all those habits that no longer serve our purpose. I know this one is a real challenge but it will get better as you go through the process, taking ourselves out of our comfort zones is always easier said than done.
And last but not least, start picturing in your mind what you would like to see in the mirror. What message do you want to convey? What do you want people to think when they see or hear you? Also, and at this point, think about what type of clothes do you need, what is your dress code. Spend some time thinking how do you envisage yourself at the end of this process. Perhaps, you could create a vision board as you work on all these questions to help you create that end vision.
